I grew up in Strathroy, Ontario. I completed my undergraduate degree at Western University in London before returning to school for the Hearing Instrument Specialist program at Conestoga College. Later, I had the opportunity to come full circle and teach Ethics and Probe Tube Measurement at Conestoga College. I am a licensed hearing instrument specialist and am registered with the Association of Hearing Instrument Practitioners (AHIP).

Working in the field of hearing care actually started as a backup plan. I thought I wanted to become a teacher, but by the time I graduated, it was clear I didn’t have either the grades for teachers’ college or the passion for teaching children that the profession deserves.

My parents both went back to school to become hearing instrument specialists in their 40s, so I always knew about the profession. It wasn’t until my mid-20s—when I was ready for a change from restaurant management—that I seriously considered it.

Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Hearing care combines the practical side of healthcare with the opportunity to build meaningful relationships. Every day is different, every patient has a story, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

I am based at Beck Hearing Aid Centre’s Central clinic. My daily responsibilities include performing hearing assessments, fitting and programming hearing aids, completing cerumen removals, and providing ongoing hearing care and counselling (my favourite part!) to help people reconnect with the world around them and improve their quality of life. I also have to do paperwork… which is definitely my least favourite part of the job. 😂

My favourite part of my work is the relationships I’ve formed. Getting to know my clients, learning about their families and their lives, and helping them reconnect with the people and moments they love is the best part of my job. I’m the type of person who will happily fill an awkward silence, but I’m also a good listener. I genuinely enjoy hearing people’s stories and feel privileged to be part of their lives over the years.

In my free time, you’ll usually find me gardening; cooking; playing ball hockey, baseball, or volleyball; tackling a DIY project around the house; or chasing after my three busy kids. I like to be on the move!

Fun fact: I have an uncanny ability to say, “I bet I could learn to do that,” and then immediately start a new hobby. Face painting, flower farming, small engine repair, painting, playing guitar, cutting hair – you name it, I’ve probably given it a try. My family has learned to expect a new hobby every few months!
