Free Hearing Assessment

Evalutations

If you suspect you may be suffering from hearing loss, the first step is to schedule a hearing test with one of our qualified hearing healthcare specialists. Having your hearing tested may cause feelings of anxiety or nervousness, but rest assured that the exams performed by our patient care specialist will be non-invasive and pain-free. So what should you expect when it comes to having your hearing tested?

Background Information

The first step to having your hearing tested is to provide the hearing healthcare specialist with a list of your symptoms and any particular words or sounds you’re struggling to hear. We may also request some comprehensive information about your medical background to find out what issues you’re facing and how they are impacting your day-to-day activities. Once this information has been collected, our hearing healthcare provider will conduct the hearing tests.

Hearing Tests

Specialized Testing

Our hearing healthcare specialist will conduct a series of tests to determine if you have hearing loss, to what degree, and at which frequencies. The series of tests our specialist conducts will depend on your symptoms and what they’re looking for but will always be simple and comfortable. The tests generally involve wearing headphones and raising your hand or tapping a button when you hear a series of tones, and repeating words or phrases played through your headphones, either on their own or with background noise. These tests should not take an extended amount of time and will provide the professional with important results to help gauge your hearing health.

More advanced tests may be performed to measure tympanic pressure in the middle ear, speech recognition in noise, and Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD).  Some advanced testing, and testing on children, are not included in our free hearing assessment.

Having your hearing tested is a simple evaluation performed by a qualified hearing specialist and will provide you the peace of mind knowing whether or not you need to seek treatment. This service is offered free at Beck Hearing Aid Centre, with no obligation to buy. Don’t put it off any longer; schedule an appointment with one of our hearing instrument specialists and get your results immediately.

Test Results

Our hearing healthcare specialist will examine the results of your hearing tests and explain to you the possible causes and consequences of any hearing loss or abnormality they have found.  In some cases, you will be referred to an ENT for further examination if your results show certain characteristics.

The specialist will then offer advice on a treatment plan unique to your needs.  Treatment could include tinnitus management, wax removal, hearing aids, or simply an annual or semi-annual schedule of hearing assessments.  There is never any pressure to purchase anything, and we take the time to make sure all your questions are answered before the appointment ends.

Your audiogram, or test results, are always sent to your family doctor for their files.  It is important that your whole healthcare team is aware of any contraindications or comorbidities related to hearing, such as a higher incidence of diabetes, heart disease, falls, vertigo and dementia.
